Multimodal Presentation
In this section, you will see me interpret an artist's work and express my opinion about the artist's work.
My artist of choice is Jeff Wall. Jeff Wall is a Canadian artist known for his large-scale backlit photography and art history writing. He is also considered one of the most influential and important contemporary photographers. Jeff Wall's approach is more like making a movie than documenting reality. The photos are done by posing and reassembling multiple elements of the image, and some stories even build directly on earlier paintings. I chose five pieces that are very representative of his different creative directions. They present their work in ways that mimic early paintings and reorganize elements, pose for social reality, and digitally montage.
When it comes to Jeff Wall's photography, people always think of the word "imitation painting". "Imitation" isn't usually a very positive word, but in Jeff Wall's case, it's the other way around - we can imitate. Became an advantage. It's one of the things that changed my view of photography, how he renders the reality of the current landscape through the spatial composition, light, and other details of his paintings. Through his creation, I think it is very important to imitate and find your own style of photography. I also hope that in the future photography process, I can learn more works of excellent photographers, strengthen contact with them, and create my own style of photography.
